Our Myanmar Ministry Myanmar (formerly Burma) is a challenging mission field. A depressed economy, repressive military rule and the dominance of Buddhism makes working in this country not only difficult, but sometimes dangerous. In fact, ten of the homes and schools we are supporting are in a restricted zone. But God has led us to the children of Myanmar, and even in the midst of terrible conditions He has enabled us to expand our ministry. In the last year we have added another 600 children to the Kids Alive Myanmar family. David Spurdle, Director of Kids Alive United Kingdom, who recently returned from a trip to Myanmar, reports, "The Chin Tribe of northeast Myanmar, among whom much of our work is done, are an isolated, persecuted minority. "They were first evangelized by American and then British missionaries. The tribe are 90% Christian. I met Christian folk living in the most difficult of circumstances with orphans and school children, endeavoring to bring some dignity to their lives and share Christ with them." The average monthly wage is approximately $6 - $8. A bag of rice is $10. Many have no income, they live by faith and the children get one meal a day. As far as I can see, the rest of the Christendom and the nations of the world have forgotten them. |
